About WSAAI

The Western Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (WSAAI) is a nonprofit corporation whose members are physicians and other medical professionals who specialize in allergy and immunology.

WSAAI's primary purpose is to encourage association of medical professionals specializing in allergy for the study of current issues and developments relevant to allergy medicine and the continuing education of allergy professionals.

The WSAAI's primary activity is its annual scientific session which consists of lectures, discussion groups, workshops and business meetings concerning the practice of allergy, asthma and immunology.

The WSAAI abides by the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support of Continuing Medical Education.

2012 Educational Objectives:

At the conclusion of the 2012 WSAAI scientific sessions, participants will improve their ability to:

  • Describe emerging asthma therapies and their potential for personalized medicine.
  • Understand the long-term outcome of childhood wheezing.
  • Weigh treatment options for mild asthma and for asthma exacerbations.
  • Recognize genetic and environmental interactions in the development of atopy.
  • Be aware of asthma guidelines, treatment options and outcome outside the United States.
  • Recognize current questions regarding various forms of immunotherapy.
  • Understand local allergic rhinitis.
  • Describe the immunology, clinical spectrum and treatment options in Eosinophilic Esophagitis.
  • Evaluate and treat the patient with food allergies.
  • Understand the potential and limitations of preventing food allergy and atopy through diet.
  • Differentiate the various presentations and emerging treatment options of chronic rhinosinusitis.
  • Recognize the link between nasal polyposis and comorbid asthma and its therapeutic implications.
  • Understand the overlap between asthma and COPD.
  • List the effects of obesity and vitamin D levels on asthma.
  • Describe recent insights in atopic dermatitis.
  • Recognize common dermatological problems in the allergy practice.
  • Evaluate the patient with a deficiency of the innate immune system.
  • Describe recent advances in immune deficiency screening and treatment.
  • Evaluate and treat the patient with frequent infections.
  • Understand the role of IgE antibodies to alpha-gal in delayed anaphylaxis.
  • Reflect on major advances and theories of the last 50 years in the specialty of allergy and immunology.

Call for Posters

The WSAAI 2012 Annual Scientific Session will include poster presentations of observations by allergists/immunologists and fellows-in-training in addition to a superb program of the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disorders and its variations.

We urge you to participate by submitting your clinical research findings for consideration by our Poster Review Committee.

Deadline for receipt of all posters is December 1, 2011.
